The Egg.gif)
The Egg contains the item for your object lesson and relates
to the lesson theme. The Egg generates curiosity and excitement each week as the
preschoolers ponder what object The Egg contains. For example, in the lesson about
Naaman's healing, a Band-Aid is the object in The Egg. Each week, the children are eager
to discover what's in The Egg!
The Critter Tale
Each lesson contains a fictional animal story that relates to
a Bible story. The first critter tale relates the story of Oops the Pig who ran away from
home. It turns out that Oops ran away at the same time as the Prodigal Son. They even end
up in the same pig pen together. Oops observes that the Prodigal Son received a wonderful
reception so our little pig friend decides to return home as well.
The Big Idea
The Big Idea is the lesson theme stated in language the child
can understand. It is repeated often throughout the lesson as it is the central concept
you want the child to retain.
Bible Story
The Bible Story is written out in sentence form for the
teacher to use as a reference. It is a Bible Story relating to the lesson theme that is
worded for preschoolers.
Looney Bird
Looney Bird, the official
Critter Land mascot, is a puppet who
briefly enters with a problem. The Big Idea always solves Looney Bird problem. The kids
tell Looney Bird the Big idea and thus solve his problem.
Looney Bird Returns
Looney Bird returns at the end of the lesson still slightly
confused about the Big Idea. He normally misunderstands a key word. For instance, in one
lesson the Big Idea is: "God has a job for me." Looney Bird thought the Big Idea
was: "God has a KNOB for me." He brings a door knob with him. The kids help
correct Looney Bird by explaining that the right word is "job" not
"knob."
Activity
The activity is an interactive portion of the lesson that
communicates the Big Idea by doing something fun.
The Ball Game
The Ball Game is a simple game played with a soft ball (such
as a Nerf Ball). It is an effective way of reviewing the lesson material while having fun
with the children.
